Day 2 without Daddy

It's starting to sink in that Jason is really in Africa and he wont be walking in the door any minute but we are adjusting. Aside from Jacob crying hard at bedtime because he normally has his Daddy put him to bed we are doing well and in good spirits. It was Jacob's last day of Kindermusik, I can't believe how much Jacob & Caden have grown in a month. Jacob also had the chance to charm Hope Colleges president while Grandma and Grandpa were babysitting & doing some fundraising for Hope and I studied before I went to a Cabi party. As you can see Grandma did get Jacob over his sadness in the absence of his Daddy.

And They're Off

The DeWitt boys are off to Africa! Today we said our last good byes at the airport around lunchtime. It's going to be a long 3 weeks but we will keep busy. Hopefully the guys have a good hunt and Jacob remembers his Daddy when he returns.

At least we gave it a try!

This morning I made a small mistake with Jacob's formula. For those of you who don't know Jacob takes special hypoallergenic formula so that he keeps it down and grows big and strong. Anyway, at Jacob's 4 month appointment the doctor had said that I should try regular formula now that Jacob is getting older. Well I tried one bottle 2 weeks ago and he was a mess but this morning I accidentally open a regular bottle of formula and fed it to him not noticing until his second feeding. So I continued to feed it to him seeing as how he had been pretty happy all morning. Unfortunately this was a big mistake. By late afternoon/early evening he was not such a happy camper. All he wanted was to be held (although I love to hold him I can get nothing done that way.) We couldn't even eat dinner whiteout him in our arms. Needless to say he had hypoallergenic formula again before bed and we will not be trying regular formula again anytime soon. I guess my mistake didn't work out so well. At least I can honestly tell the doctor next week that we tried it twice and it just didn't work.

On another note Jason leaves the day after tomorrow for Africa!! He seems like he's pretty ready. He even had time to take Jacob's 6th month pictures tonight. Luckily we could cheer Jacob up enough to take them! I think we got a few good ones. I will try to post some soon. For today here are a few pictures of Jacob helping Jason pack for his big trip!

Accident

Yesterday, Jacob and I were in a small fender bender. We were rear ended turning onto the highway by Micheals. Other than being totally shaken we are fine. The man who hit us felt horrible. Can't tell you how thankful I am that Jacob is ok and the Tahoe only needs a new bummper. Even though it was not my fault I have no intrest in driving for a while, so Jason is doing all the driving while we are at the cottage for the weekend.

It pretty chilly up here and the sun is not out so we are being pretty lazy. Hopefully it will clear up and the rain will miss us tomorrow so that we can be in the water and gets some good pictures of Jacob.

Busy Days

Jacob's Kindermusik class is called Busy Days and that is exactly what today was. Thankfully my mom watched Jacob after Kindermusik because today was unbelievably hectic. I went to school today to help the teacher who is filling my position during my leave of absence. Unfortunately it was even harder than I thought to give over my classroom to someone else. However it was good to see all the other teachers. After being at school much longer than I expected I had to pick up formulas for the little guy who is still not willing to take normal formula. Oh well he's only a baby for so long. Then off to teach swim lessons followed by Eric's Birthday dinner. (He turned 30 today) Dinner was very good except for Jacob's continual throwing up. After dinner we went to Kollen park for cake. I hadn't been there in a while and didn't realize how nice they had fixed it up. Here are few pictures of the family at Kollen Park.

I almost forgot to mention even Grandma is now planning play dates for Jacob. She had Whitney (who taught next door to her) and her little girls over for lunch and a walk to the beach. Whitney thought Jacob was a really good eater!!

Delayed Post

So although I've had many things to post on the blog in the last week It seems that every time I sit down to post something comes up that I just have to do. So here is a little run down of what we have been up to as well as a few pics.

This weekend we had two weddings Chip got married Friday afternoon and Jennie got married on Saturday. Jason's sister Ashley was nice enough to watch little Jacob while we were at the wedding on Friday and Saturday Jason let my mom go to the wedding as my date so that he could have a night with Jacob. At Jennie's wedding it was a great time seeing so many of my old swimming friends.

Sunday we spent the day at Jason's parents house enjoying the beautiful sunny day. Jacob loved being in the water kicking around in his little floaty ring. The pictures below are of Jacob's first injury. He was a little to excited during lunch and kick the table so hard that his big toe got a cut. Luckily he didn't seem to mind. He didn't shed a single tear and we didn't notice until after lunch was over and the blood was already dry.
This week I've been busy teaching a few last swim lessons for the summer. Jacob has been having fun playing with the Postma family while I teach the lessons. We also had a Dewitt family picnic yesterday and luckily the rain held out and everyone could catch up. Sorry for the long boring post.

First Play

Jacob went to his first play yesterday. Mom always takes Grace and Claire to a Hope College play for their birthdays and I always try to tag along. This year the girls were very excited to have baby Jacob coming along as well!! After a fancy lunch at McDonalds we went to see Junie B. Jones and a little Monkey Business. It was a really cute play and Jacob loved all the music and lights. He didn't cry once and was having to much fun with all the action to take a nap. It was a fun little outing for the girls as they loved taking turns pushing Jacob in the stroller through the hallways.

Happy to be Home

After a weekend away from baby Jacob I was pretty happy to have him home again. We appreciate the good care he had a Grandpa & Grandma's but we sure did miss the little guy. It sounds like from Grandma he missed us a little bit too. Thanks Tom and Teresa for helping watch him during the block picnic.

Julie's Wedding

This weekend was my friend Julie’s wedding. It was nice to see many of my friends from high school and college whom I don’t see much of. For those of you reading this who don’t know Julie she has been one of my closest friends since 6th grade, we went to HOPE together and in addition to being roommates were Delphi’s together. Many great memories!!! Julie was beautiful bride and everything went wonderfully. At the reception Jason even managed to make a friend who enjoyed talking about hunting as much as he did.

Today Jacob had his second class of Kindermusik! He had fun with all the music, dancing and other babies to play with. Caden VanHuis also came to class today. They both did a lot of drooling, putting toys in their mouths, and smiling. We attempted to get a picture of them sitting together after class but at 5 months (Jacob) & 4 1/2 months (Caden) they couldn't stay up long enough to get a picture so we went with a picture of them on their tummies! PERFECT!!!!

Coast Guard

Yesterday we had a girls day (plus Jacob) at Grandma Mary's pool. Nancy Slagh, Haley Slagh, Nan Keech, Courtney and her friend all spent the afternoon trying to keep cool, with temps in the 90's the pool was definitely the place to be. Jacob tried out the pool floaty for the first time and was loving the freedom to kick. Only once did he get a little too excited and dunk himself face first into the water. It didn't seem to bug him much though we didn't even have any tears. That evening all the guys and the rest of the family came up for pizza and the water ski show. The water ski show was a little slow this year but it was still nice to hang out and see everyone. We also had a chance to catch up with Brian and Kelly who were out riding their bikes and stopped by the boat to visit. All in all it was a great day, I love any day I get to spend by a pool!
